SWEDISH SEDONA
Swedish Sedona is a unique variation on Swedish massage, the foundation of Western massage. The Swedish massage system was developed by Pehr Henrik Ling in the early 19th century in Sweden. Although Swedish strokes are quite effective, they may be rough and disjointed. The Sedona part of the name comes from the massage developed by me, Susan Pomfret, while working at Five Star Resorts in Arizona. I combined Swedish strokes with the flow of West Coast massage. Added to this are techniques designed to be effective in the spa setting, including draping and working with a variety of clients for just one or two times. Using Swedish Sedona, the therapist can go deep without causing discomfort. The client feels ‘taken apart’ and ‘put back together’. For the receiver, Swedish Sedona is smooth and flowing with a wide range of pressures. For the person giving the massage, the movement is effortless and energizing. Understanding a few simple concepts about body mechanics will create comfort for the person giving the massage.
